What wheels were turning after doing research into rentals vs. purchases? As you begin to think about post-graduation what ways might you approach these needs?
I will most likely buy a camera of my own before I graduate or closely after. Nothing fancy or overly expensive (although they all are!). Probably a Sony A7siii or something comparable because I like the small size and image quality. I’ve also been considering the idea of getting back into teaching- at the university level- so I would have access to that equipment. For bigger narrative projects, I’d eventually like to use an Alexa camera with quality lenses, which I’ll rent, most likely for our friendly downtown production house, Lighthouse Films. Guess it’s a good thing I know how to create a budget because paying for quality equipment isn’t going to be cheap. lol
I'd definitely be into buying my own A7S, it was a breeze using it for our Doc class. It's simplistic and not horribly expensive either.
ReplyDeleteI bought a camera of my own the first semester I was here, but I never have time to use it--lol. It's a Sony A6400. When I am able to use it, I enjoy it, but I stay too busy to use it regularly. I'm not saying that to discourage you from buying a camera because I don't regret purchasing my camera. However, I'm more comfortable using the iPhone, tbh, especially in docs. The equipment I wish I had researched and invested in instead of a camera is sound equipment and then a camera. I could have made due with the iPhone until I could get a camera, but I can't say the same about sound equipment.
ReplyDeleteI'm also likely going to by a Sony A7siii. I don't know why I didn't consider renting locally for other projects. But I think that's a great idea!
